This order contains cockroaches and termites, formerly considered separate.
Earwigs have characteristic cerci, forcep-like pincers on their abdomen, and membranous wings folded underneath short, rarely used forewings. They protect their eggs and young.
Mecopterans are sometimes called scorpionflies because of their largest family, Panorpidae, whose rear body look similar to the stingers of scorpions.
The larvae of caddisflies live in streams and ponds and cover their bodies with portable cases made of small stones and other materials webbed together with silk. Adults are moth-like, with slender antennae. They have chewing mouthparts, but the adults probably do not feed.
Ghost insects resemble to vegetation while in fact being animals, and among then there are the world's longest insects.
Thysanuraare the most archaic insects and after over a century they are no more recognised as an order. They are now divided into to two groups within the former order, the Archaeognatha and the Zygentoma.
